A Fine Charles I Oak Chest

The four-panel lid, retaining the original iron hinges, above a front also of four panels, each carved with a quatrefoil floral design. The top rail, carved with an interlacing fleur de lys and lunette motif, is also continued on the side rails. The muntins and stiles are carved with vertical ‘S’ scrolls, the chest retains the original iron lockplate.

This carved quatrefoil design, together with the other decoration, is very typical of Gloucestershire. 

Excellent original deep colour and patina.

Circa 1630-40.
