A Rare Eighteenth Century English Candleshade
The shade, retaining the original silk, is folded and attached to a folding frame, which slots into an arm, which in turn fastens round the neck of the candlestick, or candle. The whole folds away and is stored in its original leather case – suitable for carrying.
Note – it is remarkable that the silk shade has survived, when it is in such close proximity to the candle flame!
English, circa 1750-70.
